Magomejuku
Magomejuku
Magomejuku, located between Gifu and Nagano prefectures, is an old station town on the Nakasendo route that connected Kyoto and Edo (present day Tokyo) during the Edo period (1603 – 1867). The wooden buildings and stone-paved streets will make you feel as if you have traveled back in time. The town of Magome is the hometown of writer Shimazaki Toson, and you can visit his home and see the literary works exhibited there. After your walk through the town, you can visit some local snack vendors, and try out traditional snacks like goheimochi (rice cake on a stick). The Old Nakasendo Path is a beautiful hiking route. You can get there by going through Magome Pass.
