Old Ino Tadataka residence locates in the city of Katori in Chiba prefecture. It sits right by the Onogawa River, and can be spotted by its traditional tiled roof. Ino Tadataka is a cartographer from the late Edo period (1603 – 1867). He is most well known for drawing the map of Japan very accurately by traveling around the country on foot. His former house in Katori is around 200 years old. Inside are rooms items used by Ino himself, such as his study kitchen. The main building is designed by Ino himself. Around the building, there are several souvenir shops selling locally made sake and pickled vegetables. There is also a Ino Tadataka Memorial, where you can learn about his life and about Japan in the late Edo period.
